Resources for West Frisian

Ah yes... West Frisian...

The main aim of this site is to find language resources for languages like West Frisian; languages with rather limited resources which could vanish in the future. As such, learners of these obscure languages face difficulties when it comes to finding new learning material.

Frisian as described by Wikipedia ''is a West Germanic language spoken mostly in the province of Friesland (Fryslân) in the north of the Netherlands, mostly by those of Frisian ancestry.''

 If your plan is to learn West Frisian, you must have in mind that West Frisian is NOT the only existing Frisian language out there (North Frisian and Saterland Frisian are the other Frisian languages). While comparing these 3 languages, you will immediately discover that West Frisian has more speakers than the other ones.

West Frisian is spoken in:
  • the province of Friesland
  • the province of Groningen by a small part of the local population

Personally speaking, the best resource for West Frisian out there is ''Omrop Fryslan'' which has been included in this list (number 13); from what I've seen, Omrop Fryslan is the local broadcaster of Friesland, and as such, every posted article and every broadcasted show is in West Frisian.
